Gone Fishing

To the few who drop by here occasionally I apologize for blowing off this blogging thing lately. It's the Spring Flu. Cranky, bored, hassled and walking around with the visage of a stunned carp. Also, Gracie is going to need surgery quite soon. Nothing dangerous, but I'm obviously preoccupied with that. I love blogging and I love hearing from people about any old thing that crawls into their head, but lately there's not much that's coherent in mine. I'll be back, but I think it's time to call for a short break.

See you soon.

A Small Good Deed

It's been many years since I've read Metropolitan Diary, a feature in the Times full of "only in New York" stories of cuteness, cleverness and sweetness. It seemed to be what the word "twee" was invented to describe.

This morning on my way to work after a week of vacation I was not in a wonderful mood. Then I accidentally got on the "C" train instead of the "E" train at 42nd St. I got off at 50th and stood there waiting for the next "E" when this pleasant looking guy walked past me and then turned and said "Excuse me, are you waiting for the "E"? I said I was and he smiled and said "It's downstairs" and walked off. He had saved me fifteen minutes or so of self loathing. I've been unable to reconstruct my wretched mood all day.
