Onward Christian Guerrillas

A letter to the NY Times today states explicitly a meme that I've been seeing more and more of lately.

"I would say that to be a Christian who takes the teachings of the religion's founder seriously precludes membership in today's Republican Party."

Would you? This is fundamentalism of a rigidity and narrowness rarely seen among Pentacostals. This person may not be saying God hates Republicans, but he is saying that Republicans, by their policy choices are putting themselves outside of God's love.

What is happening to the Democratic Party? When the loons on the extreme started speaking for the party last summer I was kind of jacked. It seemed interesting and fun that they were institutionally toying with the idea of throwing themselves off a cliff. I enjoy a trainwreck as well as the next guy, but it's only fun until someone gets hurt and these guys are serious.

Its really hard to listen to someone blather about the Religious Right if they simultaneously believe God wants us to hike up the minimum wage.
