On the Beach 

We spent Sunday afternoon and early evening at Sandy Hook. It's a lovely place and a good time was had by all. To tell the truth, I'm not much of a beach person -- even though I grew up on the Jersey shore and worked on the boardwalk a number of summers I was never passionate about the beach. I prefer the mountains, but that, obviously, is going to have to change. There is nothing about the beach that Grace doesn't like. Her joy is the joy of a person who is exactly where they would most like to be. I see fewer mountain trails and more sand crabs in my future.

I share with Radley Balko and other libertarians a horror of anti-obesity legislation. I have to admit, however, my militancy was dulled a bit by spending a few hours among the crowds at Sandy Hook. Jeez. Manatee-nation.
